Real Life Debt-Busters

This is a continuation of our series highlighting real people from around the country who are working hard to get out of debt.

Alexisa made a commitment to better her financial standing when she reached out to FaithWorks Financial this time last year. She sought help and then took action, following the suggestions she was giving. Now, here’s how far she’s come!

Names:

Alexisa Humphrey

Occupations:

Air Force Medic

Starting debt:

$18,000 from credit cards and loans

Debt paid off:

As of today, I am down to $15,000 in debt with one credit card paid off.

Debt-busting motivation:

My motivation to become debt free is my kids. I want to be able to provide them a better life and not live paycheck to paycheck like my family has always done.

Debt-busting method:

I signed up with the [credit counseling company recommended by FaithWorks Financial] to lower my interest rates and they pay my bills for me monthly so I won’t get the urge to skip a payment. When I get a large lump sum of cash I send it in to try and lower my debt.

Best thing about the debt-free journey:

Everyday I see myself closer to my goal and it’s a huge burden off of me.

Debt-busting philosophy:

Continue to pray, fast, believe, and you will achieve your goal.

First thing they’re going to do when they’re debt free:

When I finally become debt free I will tell everyone and let them know all things are possible if you continue to believe in God and keep your mind focused on your goals.

Bible verse:

And God is able to make all grace (every favor and earthly blessing) come to you in abundance, so that you may always and under all circumstances and whatever the need be self-sufficient [possessing enough to require no aid or support and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation]. 2 Corinthians 9:8
